Garmin and MyFitnessPal Join to Improve the Way You Stay Active

Garmin announced a partnership with MyFitnessPal in June, further improving its health-related offerings. MyFitnessPal is a calorie counting app that helps users monitor diet as well as calories burned through exercise on a daily basis.

The union will allow users to join their Garmin Connect or Garmin Connect Mobile accounts to their MyFitnessPal account. Those with a VivoFit or Forerunner 15 will now be able to view the number of calories eaten and spent using their Garmin device.

“Garmin has been helping people reach health goals with our line of fitness wearables for 10 years, and our partnership with MyFitnessPal brings our user experience to the next level,” said Garmin vice president of worldwide sales, Dan Bartel.  Existing customers will love the added benefit while non-customers who are health-conscious may be swayed to go with Garmin.

According to Garmin, the Vivofit wrist device is already the only daily activity tracker on the market that currently offers a full year of battery life. Now users can utilize some of that battery life to tap into their MyFitnessPal data everywhere they go.

The Vivofit requires no accessories to wear and is designed for optimum visibility, so no GPS hood, mounting component or other purchase is needed. It is worn on the wrist just like a bracelet or watch and features a low profile so it stays out of the way when moving.

Garmin continues to expand its fitness products and features. This is definitely a good thing with more people focusing on better living and healthier lifestyles. While a Garmin device isn’t required to use MyfitnessPal, it certainly makes the app more convenient.
